Reliablesite Transfer from DotNetPanel to HELM (Review)

Monday, September 15th, 2008

I just completed moving nine web sites and three databases from a HELM account to a new DotNetPanel account.  I must admit I dreaded and feared the move, knowing it would be intensive and not without challenges.  I was pleasantly surprised.  Other than the extended download times, the experience was without difficulties.  I did some database work in the interim and all the new connection strings and passwords worked.  Downtime was probably less than an hour during the actual cutover.

Performance seems better and the DotNetPanel is much more robust.  The Reliablesite support folks were responsive in creating backups and answering questions.  Gosh, it was so much “fun” I’m ready to do it again.

ReliableSite has sent out e-mails today promoting their SQL Server 2008 hosting for plans. The pricing looks great at just $5 per database for a 1 GB database which is 1/2 the price and 10 times the size of any database given by discountasp. See MS SQL 2008 Hosting for more details.
